New House Numbers

Today’s house number challenge is to spot the number on this cute suburban home. l’ll give you a clue. The font is Helvetica Nueue Condensed Bold, scaled so each number is 5″ tall.

Wow! You can’t see it? Here’s a further clue. The number is over 2 ft tall. Still can’t see it? Okay I’ll tell you the bottom line: the number is long and thin.

I can’t believe you still can’t see it. Alright, the final part of the secret is that it’s TOTALLY INVISIBLE to the human eye from the road!

The perpetrator of this useless house number admits the job didn’t turn out as envisioned. “A bit too low contrast,” Chris said. To say the least.

Do you totally give up? Then I’ll tell you.

The house number is sprayed onto the long, thin window to the right of the door using privacy glass spray and a stencil.

Oh, I hear you say.

All is not lost! Chris can shop online at the House Number Shop and have an elegant, readable sign delivered to his house. Don’t know how they’ll find his place though.

There’s such a thing as your house numbers standing out, but having them standing out about five inches proud of you house siding is a bit much. House numbers are not a good place for high art even if you are a cat fanatic. Yes, these numbers do incorporate cat heads, believe it or not, though I can’t say for sure what numbers these are supposed to represent. I say it’s best to keep the cat art indoors and the clear house numbers outside where folk can read them. It’s not so hard. No, we don’t have a number sign with a baby playing trumpet, or a friendly kitty.
